Hunger Strike in Support of the Iranian People and for the Release of Political Prisoners
WHEN: July 22nd-24th, 8am to 8pm
WHERE: United Nations (47th street and 1st ave), New York
WHO: Akbar Ganji, Googoosh, Fatemeh Haqiqatjoo, Mehrangiz Kar, Edbi, Hamid Dabashi and many more (see list http://strike4iran.com/)
WHAT: Strikers ask you to join them as the hold a 3-day hunger strike to protest the illegal detainment of hundreds-to-thousands of Iranian activists, protesters, students and journalists. Strikers demand the immediate release of all political prisoners and that the Secretary-General of the UN appoint a special representative to go to Iran and investigate allegations of human rights abuse. Please join us all three days 8am to 8pm. Speeches will be given from 12 noon-2pm every day and a vigil will be held 5pm-8pm every night. Friday night will include a break-fast and and live modern-traditional Iranian music. This event will lead up to the July 25th Global Day of Action.
